Color Studies Project
I first started off with a Pixabay photo for reference. I chose a daisy as my subject because they are my favorite flowers and I thought this flower would best represent the color theories.
Colors
After I chose my reference photo, I chose my colors from color.adobe.com. For this project we had to pick color swatches for monochromatic, complementary, split complementary, and tetrad (square).
Monochromatic
This is how the Monochromatic painting turned out. I wanted to make the flower petals to be the focal point with the dark blues but have the middle of the flower stand out with the light blue.
Complementary
This is how my complementary painting turned out. With this painting, I still made the flower petals the focal point but the green background really helps the pink colors pop. As well as tying in the pink splotches in the background making the entire painting complimentary.
Split Complementary
This is how my split complementary painting turned out. Since these colors are very different from each other I wanted the background one color (blue) and the petals to be similar (red and orange). Since the background is such a dark color I wanted to bring back some light and focus to the flower by adding a hue to the stem of the flower.
Tetrad
This is how my tetrad painting turned out. With every other painting I made the flower the focal point by choosing light colors for the petals and making the background dark. For this painting I wanted to do the complete opposite. Making the background 3 different shades of brown creates a effect that still makes the flower stand out event though the petals are dark colors.
